Over/under cranking on Hpx 300
Hey guys,
forgive me if this subject has been talked about before and or my ignorance on the subject.
I have never attempted O/U cranking in camera before. I know its supposed to be done in 720p, I however can’t seem to get more than 3 settings, I go into the menu, under system mode, select the category and I get an option of, {1080i-59.94i}, {720-59.94i}, or {480-59.94i}, that’s’ it. I am shooting on the AVC intra 100 codec. I’m wondering as I write this if that is the problem.
The camera has the new firm ware on it, I don’t know if something changed since I {DL} the firmware, I never used it prior to the firm ware release, I had no P2 cards until recently. So is the some setting issue or something I’m over looking?
When I try changing the frame rate using the only available setting under the 720 range {720-59.94i} it doesn’t affect the speed at all.
Any suggestions?
I’m going to go try changing codecs and see if that changes anything.

Check out page 35 from the HPX-300 Manual.
For Native VFR Recording, set System Mode to 720-59.94p and REC Format to AVC-I 100/24PN.Steve Eisen

The frame rate is changed in another menu. Sorry, I don’t know it off the top of my head, and have never used the 300, but there’s a separate menu that has a frame rate field. You change that from default to whatever you want.

OK Steve, I did notice a change when I used those 2 settings. Its funny that in the view finder it appears to slow down the image at 12 frames but its actually speeding it up.
I will play with them further and experiment. Is their something I’m missing though when it comes to the settings in the system setup section?
I only see the 3 I mentioned earlier, shouldn’t their be more options?

I think I have it now, I’ve been in the manual, and I seen so many settings over the last couple days that I think I’m starting to mix them up.
So the answer is that their should only be 3 option in system set up right? 1080i 59.94, 720, etc….
Then you pick which record format you want?
If I want to see 1080 p I would go to 1080 i, then select for example avc intra 100 24p. That would give me a 1080 24p clip or look, right?

With AVC-I you get 1080psf23.976. It’s 24p without pulldown. In DVCPRo HD if shooting in 1080, you can only record 24p with pulldown resulting in 29.97 files.
You can only over and undercrank in 720p mode.
You need to put your camera to 720p59.94 AVC-I 100 mode, then go fine the other menu to choose the frame rates.

sounds to me like he’s forgetting to turn on the Variable Frame Rate setting in the Scene File menu, then you choose what frame rate, 12, 15, etc. up to 60 for over cranking.
