My company just sold an advertising contract to another company that wants to overlay an animation (i.e. a building “growing” out of the bottom of the frame with a sign on it, something similar to what, say, TBS does to promote their upcoming shows on the screen during another show) on my company’s video newscasts.

They are providing me with the animation file itself, but need to know in what format to provide the file to me and I’m not sure what to tell them. I typically edit in DV – NTSC. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If they’re making the animation in something like AfterEffects, they could just give you a Quicktime .mov, based on your DV NTSC [whether it’s 4:3 or 16:9] resolution, in Animation codec & with alpha channels, so that it could be superimposed on your current newscasts.
