I shot a live music video with a band and three of the 9 cameras came out over exposed. Is there anyway to compensate for this in either combustion or FCP? I know it won’t be as good as if I had done it in camera but please tell me there is a way to do it.

A 10 second search in the FCP forum came up with this:

There is a recent plugin for FCP that will bring back a certain amount of over-exposed detail but for the most part once a digital signal is clipped it’s unrecoverable. I’ll try and find the name of the plugin and post back when I do. I think it’s a plugin by Captain Mench (don’t know his real name). Shane Ross or some others on the forum here will know who and what I’m talking about.

It’s called CAPT’S BLOWOUT FIXER, and it can be found…FREE…here:

Patrick Sheffield is working on a successor that is better. I’ll try to get his attention.

Sorry – been down with no power for most of the day today.

Since I’m not really ready to release the plugin yet, do you wanna post a second long movie of example footage and I’ll see what can be done?

https://youtube.com/watch?v=iFh6RQi0sq4 This is the rough cut with a high compression rate but the over exposed images are obvious.

    Thanks everyone.

That’s only a little bit helpful. It looks POTENTIALLY that it MIGHT be POSSIBLE to affect some fixing of the footage. But the only way to tell is if you are able to post to a web space or email me a couple of 1 second movies IN THE ORIGINAL FORMAT of the footage.

It’s in my last post written out. But don’t send huge files – just some second long movies…
