  • Outputting Windows Media Video for Web. HELP!!

Posted by Danny Greer on July 11, 2007 at 1:21 pm

I am creating a website for a production company, which has movies on it that showcases the company’s current work. Intially, I outputted all the movies as Quicktime-Broadband-Medium and put them on the site using Dreamweaver.

The client says that they would also like the option of having the movies avaliable in Windows Media format, to make it more PC friendly. However, when I try to output the movies using Quicktime Conversion-Windows Media I am getting files that aren’t playing back when on the Internet. Perhaps something is messing up in Dreamweaver, but I have a feeling I am not outputting the files correctly out of FCP.

Does anyone have any experience outputting WMV files for web using FCP and publishing using Dreamweaver? If so, what are some good hints/tips?!

    Much thanks!

Dreamweaver shouldn’t care anything about the file.

But you didn’t tell us what WMV encoder you are using, Flip4Mac?

Forget QT and forget WMV. Your best bet, honestly, is to encourage your client to use Flash video as their media. Everyone has a Flash player.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

This topic is covered quite often on here please do a search before posting.

Do a google search for Filp4Mac and purchase the version that fits your needs.

If you want the best web compatibility they use Flash. Also because most everyone has iTunes now days then and because iTunes comes with quicktime, there is no reason to discount quicktime as a valid web format as well.
