    Hi All,

I have a quick question, well quick on my end, I don’t know if the answer is all that quick, heh.

Simply put, working from a Mac Pro 8-core, with the latest FCP. What would be the best process for outputting a TVC in HD for a Television Station? And what hard ware would I need (ie. Kona card, certain type of deck, etc).

    Thanks for any help!

    Scott

    That’s a expensive question.

First, what is thetation’s delivery reqs for HD?

Right now we are unsure of the station reqs for HD. That answer should come in this afternoon.

And true, I realize it is an expensive question. But I’m doing some research for the company I work for. They feel the need to go HD, so I am here to assist, heh.

I’ve heard that the Sony HDCAM W500 is a popular choice for the output deck, does anyone know if this is the industry standard or if infact there is one yet? And is the Kona LH solid enough or should I be looking at the Kona 3 or 3X series?

I’ll follow up about what the station reqs are once I find out. But getting FCP to output HD and what card selection, maybe easier to answer right away… hopefully. 🙂

    Kona LH is fine.

HDCAM is pretty standard… however if you need to deliver 5.1 mixes, you need to go with an 8channel D5 or HDCAM-SR… or you’ll need DA88 tapes to go with the HDCAM. The station reqs will sum it up.

Some places also accept DVCPRO-HD tapes.

For a short spot like a TVC, it might be cheaper to take an HD QT file to a facility to dub to whatever brand of HD tape the station requires. They may even take the QT file.

Buying/ hiring in cards & machines will cost a lot for a short dub.
