Outputting Channels 3&4 through Kona 2

Kona can output up to 24 channels I believe.

You need to set up the Audio Output of your Sequence to output 4 channels.

Then you assign your tracks in the timeline to Channels 1 – 4.

Lay off your show.

… and change the channel mapping, if necessary, on your deck settings from 2 to 4 channels, then be sure you patch your tracks to their respective channels by control + click near the track button and route in the popup dialog.

Be sure your bars/tone are set correctly – levels and pan. all tracks should play the same.

I believe FCP6 has simplified the interface, but the technical aspects of the setup I suggested remain true.

The reason I ask is because when I ctrl click on the audio channels on the left side of the screen it only gives me audio outputs 1&2. How do I map tracks to channels 3&4??

As I described in my first post. Your Sequence Settings. Change your Audio Output to 4 channel.

Sorry Walter – I misread your post. I was looking in device settings and changing that to 4 channels. I didn’t see the sequence setting. Thanks so much for your help (as always!)

Apple hasn’t changed their channel mapping interface since version 4 as far as I can tell. They really should simplify the process so I can stop having to answer everyones question about this relatively simple procedure. I get this question all the time from beginning and experienced users.
Back in my Avid days it was quite simple. There was basically one window in which you would do all your audio output mapping. It was considerably more straight forward, and was contained in one simple to understand window and this was back in Avid v6.5 days.

I agree, the Avid interface for this is simpler…but in FCP, unlike Avid, you can have multiple sequences open at the same time. The audio mapping is tied to the Sequence settings for this reason….you can have different channel mappings for each open sequence, if you so desire.
