Outputting an SD tape with Kona 3 and Sony HVR25AU
Posted by Dave Boampong on December 23, 2010 at 7:54 pmGuys will I be able to output an SD tape (mini dv pal) from final cut pro 7 through the AJA Kona 3 to a Sony HVR 25 AU deck? I will be editing EX3 footage and converting to SD on the timeline.
The post studio only has this set up.
Any help will be appreciated.

December 24, 2010 at 3:46 amIf you output via firewire, then you aren’t outputting via the Kona. Only when you output via SDI, Component or Composite. Make sure the deck is set to record DV, then connect it to the Kona via Component (or if it has SDI, use that), and then output via the Kona.

Video playback in FCP -> HD
in AJA control panel
Primary HD
Secondary SD.
This way you get the hardware downscaling from the AJA on your Component or SDI output. -

December 24, 2010 at 2:01 pmCan I use component to s-video convertor cables to connect the Kona 3 to the Sony HVR25AU as this VTR does not have component or SDI inputs?

December 31, 2010 at 8:05 pmKona3 analog outputs feature S-VHS (Y/C) outputs, so no conversion is necessary except wiring. Check your control panel for this option. You can also output Betacam Y/R-Y/B-Y if you have an SP deck.
