output with .mpg extension?
Hey everyone,
I need to output a 1280 720 23.98 project to these specs
Video: Mpeg2, 4:2:2, 720 x 486 (recommended) or 720x 480 18 Mbs, 9 frame GOP (Recommended) 29.97 fps. interlaced Video lower field first.
Audio: embedded Mpeg1 layer 2 48Khz 16bit 384 Kbps,
Spot MUST have an .mpg file extension.I tried somethings in compressor and I can’t get it to output with a .mpg extension always goes to .m2v.
Any thoughts?

You’re encoding to m2v is because you’re encoding for DVD use.
Duplicate one of those settings.
Or Duplicate Apple>Formats>MPEG2>Program Stream
Under Encoder where it says Stream usage change it from SD DVD to Generic (if you started from a DVD setting).
That would change the extension to mpeg (not mpg though)
in the Extras tab make sure Multiplexed MPEG-1/Layer 2 Audio is checked.
Make sure the Program stream button is selected beneath that.
I’d probably recommend GOP structure IBBP Closed GOP Size 15. You won’t be able to select 9 frame GOP structure.
Video Format NTSC Frame Rate 29.97 Bottom First.
I’m probably skipping a few things as you need to make sure you’re adding pull down to go from 23.98 to 29.97 and aspect ratio you’d probably want letter boxed.Telestream Episode is a much better encoder for this type of job and you’ll get mpg extension on Program Stream as well.

Thanks for all your help. Your notes have been dead on. Luckily for me the deliverable changed and I was able to deliver at 23.98.

Short of doing it for broadcast TV, many playback devices will handle 23.98 natively or add the pull down on the fly.
