I’m looking to export my fcp timeline to tape and trying to find the best way to do it. My timeline is 1920X1080 HD, and I’m looking to go to a mini dv tape through my blackmagic card to the sony m35u deck. Now, can I export through the fcp timeline and record to tape? or is there another way. Blackmagic has a software for blackmagic deck control, and I have not used it, but seems I can export that way as well. Can I export to tape without firewire? my deck is connected to the blackmagic card via hd/sdi out. I have not exported to tape with my new system setup, and have always used firewire straight from the computer to the deck.

If that card can do a realtime downconvert to SD you’re all set. If not, you’ll have to render everything, probably using compressor to make the conversion.

We output HD timelines all the time to our BetaSP deck using our AJA Kona boards. They perform realtime downconvert of HD to SD so all we do is leave FCP all set in HD mode and the card converts the footage during playback.

Ok, so how do I go about that? one issue I am having is dropped frames with during playback of my raw edit. Should I export the entire sequence first with compressor? what are the necessary steps to convert to SD/tape?
