What output resolution do you guys and gals use most often in your work?

this is not a valid question. An After Effects project’s frame size and frame rate and color space settings and workflow routines are established and controlled by the end product. One takes shortcuts wherever possible without compromising the end result and one tries to avoid over-resolving the target result.

It depends on which part of planet earth you’re in and whether the output is destined for broadcast or corporate. In the US, lots of stuff for broadcast are HD. In Singapore, HD is preferred for original programming for broadcast.
Depending on the corporate client, it’s still largely SD (4:3) with a small but growing number asking for SD but with a HD copy for posterity.

I’ve had almost all of my clients switch to requesting 1920×1080 (HD) in the last couple years (all US clients). Sometimes a client will spec HD when we really don’t need it (like web usage), and I’ll try to talk them down into something more appropriate for their master (which ended up being 1280×720 in this case), but for the most part, clients seem to want to master in HD “to be safe” even when they don’t have an immediate HD output need.
