    Hi,

New to Sony Vegas. I imported a DVD and made minor edits. I now want to export it. It will be put into a PowerPoint presentation, and displayed full screen on a projecter (1024 x 768 resolution).

My primary question is what resolution, and pixel aspect ratio should I set the export to?

Should I set it to 1024×768 (square) to match the display, even though this is in excess of the resolution of the source file?

Should I set it to the resolution of the source file (720 x 576), and let the computer scale it? What do I set the pixel aspect ratio to?

Should I be setting some other combination?

Also, any ideas for output format? I initially planned MPEG-2 but have read WMV may be better?

    Cheers,
    Rob

I would output at the resolution of the footage and let the PC scale it up. It usually does a good job. If you render to MPEG-2 it will require that the PC you use has DVD Player software as Windows Media Player will not play MPEG-2 natively without it. So a WMV file is probably the most compatible format for you to use.

Will you loose quality if you input MPEG-2, and render as WMV?

You will alwyas lose quality when you convert from one file format to another.
How bad the quality hit is depends on the source video and the format you’re converting to.
All I can suggest is to try it a few different ways and see what is and isn’t acceptable to you.
