  • Output Print to Video Problems with Sony HVR-V1U

Posted by Jamie Pilarski on July 28, 2008 at 3:46 pm

So want to do a Print to Video with a Sony HVR-V1U. Found this post noted below, but I just can’t seem to get the camcorder to recognize the HDV signal going in. As a test, I tried digitizing again from it, into FCP, and it works fine.

Using a 2.4 Mac Book Pro. The V1 is pretty similar to the A1 and Z1. Anyone have any additional ideas besides the note below?

You can record back to Sony HDV camcorders. I do this often with the A1 and Z1 using firewire.
You must use PRINT TO VIDEO to do so.
First, make sure you captured in HDV (either 1080i50 or 1080i60).
You can only lay back in the format you captured (based on camera).

    Under AUDIO/VIDEO SETTINGS:
    1. Make sure the correct SEQUENCE PRESET is set to either 1080i50 or 1080i60.
    2. Capture Preset: HDV
    3. Device Control Preset: SONY HDV
    Then select tab: AV DEVICES
On box DIFFERENT OUTPUT to Edit to Tape/PRINT TO VIDEO
select HDV (1440×1080)60i (USA) or 60i (Europe)
    audio: default

Place your clip on time line, go to PRINT TO TAPE follow directions.
FCP will do some voodoo to prepare for playback.
When it is ready it will tell you to start record on your machine. Start your machine, then hit OK.
You WILL see the REC going in realtime in the Z1 viewfinder.

    hope that helps.

OK… I trashed my prefs and it worked. I hadn’t done that in awhile I guess.

I’m having this same issue. How do I trash my preferences? This is driving me nuts.

Same problem, no setting combination seems to generate a output device list other than “Main Monitor” or None.

If someone knows how to fix this please help!

    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi,
I am having some issues with printing HD video to V1P as SD DV video. I can not find the way to print it by preserving 16:9 aspect ratio. If anyone can help me with that, really appreciated.
    Cheers

It is actually impossible to preserve the 16×9 aspect ratio, because all SD video is recorded to tape squeezed at 720×480, period end of story. The squeezed video is then it is unsqueezed in FCP by checking the anamorphic checkbox and on a 4×3 monitor by pushing the 16×9 button.
