  • Output of DV to DBeta – field dominance issue?

Going from K2 to DBeta of DV master sequence. Easy setups are for DV via SDI. Does the K2 correct the field dominance from going from DV to D-1 601? I know that if I were to paste the DV material into a D-1 Uncompressed seq, that all the clips would be adjusted one scan line to keep the even fields even and the odd fields odd, but I don’t know if this would happen automatically going from DV to DB via SDI. Should I output to DVCam via FW first [transparent transfer], then go DVCam to DB via SDI? It’s 90 minutes, so I could be rendering forever if I nested the DV master into a 10-bit 601 sequence.

    Suggestions?

Just set up for your Kona to be the output device and you’ll get a very clean output of your DV timeline to D-Beta. Works perfectly here outputting from DV to BetaSP when necessary.

    Aloha Steve,

Forgive me if this is a redundant addition to Walter’s post, but SDI is both a transmission protocol and a data transfer protocol wrapped into one, as opposed to firewire which is just a data transfer protocol. So if the device is really producing a SDI compliant stream then the Digibeta deck can record it with no problem. So field dominance is not an issue as it is translated in the Kona card (or whatever SDI device you are using).

    Aloha,

Thx for the coda. However, recordability is not the issue. If the DV picture is 720 x 480 and the “canvas” of the 601 D-1 SDI output stream is 720 x 486, will the K2 resolve the fact that DV footage, on a 601 D-1 canvas without any manual adjustments [in other words, no vertical repositioning], would have its field dominance reversed to upper? If you copy/paste DV footage into a 601 sequence, it automatically repositions the footage +1 scan line to preserve the proper field dominance. I was wondering if K2 does this automatically.
