I am using the HDlink Blackmagic codec to input HDV video and edit. When I try to output to tape via Firewire to the VCR mode of camera I get no picture. Is it possible to use the camera as a deck? Do I need to convert the footage? Everything in the timeline is rendered. Help I am an Avider editor trying to switch!

why would you want to? It doesn’t seem like HDV would be the way to archive. Why not HDcam if HD or Digibeta for SD?

The HDV output has to be rendered to tape before it records, it won’t play in real time. Also do you have the camera set to HDV record?

Yes the sequance is render and camera is in HDV. I talked with Sony and troble shot the camera so it has to be on the FCP end. Or a problem beacuase I am using HDlink and the blackmagic codec to view in HD on a monitor. I was hoping there was a output setting I was missing.

I do not have accesss to thuse other formatts, just beta sp, HDV, and DV so to keep it in its native formatt I havee to go this route if possible. Short of renting becks for the output.
