I am not sure what route to go to make what I am trying to do.

I have text that is converted to an outline. I have created strokes using the appearance technic. I am wanting to have 3 different shapes created from this. First shape is the original text, second shape is the first stroke, and lastly the third shape is the second stroke. When I have tried Objects/Path/Outline Stroke, nothing happens. Am I trying to do this with the wrong technic? Do I want to do this in another way?

Going back a bit….I have seen logos and artwork that have the same shape or object repeated but at a different size to make strokes. When I try and resize an object, it is not even all the way around to make a stroke.

It has been a while since I have used Illustrator and know at one point in time I was able to do this. I hope this makes sense and someone can point me in the right direction.

In the window panel you can open appearance for adding new stroke to your selection. Another hack for you to achieve this result, select any shape, make a copy with ctrl c and paste above with ctrl f, select the above copied shape and make it black, increase the size a little more than the original font while pressing “alt” to maintain the position, then press “ctrl shift [” to send the black copied shape behind the original font and it will act as a stroke, select both and right click to group.
