  Outer space / supernovas etc

  I am planning to create a music video clip based around the big bang with lots of cosmic effects and space scenes.
  I know you can make a star field using particular but what about effects like a supernova etc.

  Is it worth putting in the time to learn how to tweak particular or is it something that is only going to look good if it is done in a 3D program or something like Houdini – https://www.sidefx.com/?
