I’m learning web design basics from an old book and I wondered if one of they’re rules is outdated. The question is this, The book says to design your pages for a 760px browser window, but all of the good websites seem to design for 1024, is that rule outdated or is still good advice?

    hello…

1024 is somewhat the norm these days, but i tend to make designs around 900-940 or so, because with the larger monitors, people aren’t as likely to have the browser window maximized to their full resolution any more…when people were running 800×600 monitors, it was more likely that they’d have the browser maxed out, but with the higher res, they might not be as likely to…

    hope that helps!

Thanks, good tip about the restore option, I wouldn’t have considered that.
