Out of sync problem…
I just received the Platinum edition and am new to the DVD creation process. Prior to the Vegas software, I was using InterVideo WinDVD that came bundled on my PC. I captured portions of two VHS tapes (@ 1 hr. ea.) directly to my PC using WinDVD and following editing out commercials and junk, burned a DVD. When I first viewed the DVD, everything appeared to have worked as expected. However as the DVD progressed, I started noticing a sync problem between the audio and video…audio lagging behind the video. As the DVD progessed, the out of sync condition got worse and by the end of the DVD, it was very noticable. Having just received Vegas and Architect, I tried creating/burning another DVD utilizing Architect and the same two captures I did previously with Win DVD and the out of sync issue still remains.
I searched postings via this venue both present and past and didn’t find anything. Any information you could enlighten me with and or point me towards other info that’s already out there somewhere, I’d really appreciate your efforts.

The best way to capture is via firewire. When capturing via firewire into a DV-AVI file, your sync should hold. If your capturing from an analog source, you can get a convertor (such as a Canopus ADVC-100) to convert from analog to firewire.

To be certain I understand what you say, do you mean capture from my VCR to my PC via a Firewire?
I am trying to convert personal VHS tapes previously recorded at varying quality settings, to DVD.

Buy a convertor as I mentioned before. The VCR will plug into the convertor via RCA or S-Video. Then plug the convertor to the computer via Firewire. You will then be able to capture straight from the VHS tape to the computer into standard DV-AVI files.

Thanks a ton for your help. I researched the Canopus converters and was so impressed by what I read, I just bought one…looking forward to getting on with life. Also, I reviewed your web site and liked what I saw so I also registered there too. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

I look at it as one of those things where you can spend two months fiddling with things trying to make a non-standard method work or you can spend a couple hundred dollars on the right equipment and be up and going in a few minutes with no fiddling.
Vegas Vidcap will capture from the convertor into standard DV-AVI files (approx. 13Gig per hour). You will need to turn OFF “Device Control” since the convertor does not “play” or “pause”. Hook it up Analog from VCR to the convertor and then Firewire from the convertor to the computer.

Is Vegas Vidcap a function of the full blown version of Vegas 6 or is it also available from within the Movie Studio version of software that I’m using?

It’s in Movie Studio as well. It’s the capture program that opens when you select Capture Video.
