  • Out of memory error after adding large still image

Posted by Mark Linthicum on October 31, 2011 at 3:18 am

Just made a 1920×14400 file in photoshop for a credit scroll and when i try to render it in FCP 7 I get an out of memory error.

i have added more memory to the still image section of the disk cache in system settings but no luck.

Any ideas how I can get this file to render?

    Thanks, Mark

The out of memory error is because the image is too big for FCP to handle. FCP only works with stills up to 4000 pixels along either direction.

You have 2 options – cut the still image into 4 sections and put them on overlapping layers, or do the overlay in different software (e.g ., motion or ae) and bring it back into FCP when it’s rendered.

    Thanks Andrew.

Good to know! I am starting to do it in AE now.

    Thanks, Mark
