I keep expecting to see some reference to this issue, and I never do – which leads me to believe that there was something wrong with my HVX200 right from the moment I took it out of the box. E-GAD!

Whenever I focus my camera to infinity, the image goes out of focus. If I back off the focus a bit, the on-screen display still indicates that I am focused at infinity, but the image becomes sharp.

Anyone else having this issue? Anyone? Bueller?

[Ken Nemetchek] “Whenever I focus my camera to infinity, the image goes out of focus.”

check the viewfinder diopter adjustment to make sure it is not been modified.
if it is set at zero- the camera is in need of repair.

Are you using the “push to infinity” button? Or just spinning the ring up to infinity? Because the HVX will actually focus “past” infinity. To verify if there’s something wrong, use the push-to-infinity button. If it’s sharp then, there’s nothing wrong.

You know this happened to me to but it was a different from my last camera. The camera has the switch from A to M for the focus. I too switched this to M to do focusing myself and it would go out of focus or try to focus it’s self. When you turn the camera from Auto to Manual and the focus to Maunal as well then the camera allows you to use the focus ring by it’s self. I would have thought that switching the front A to M for the focus would allow you to do it your self, like my last camera but for some weird reason the camera has to be in Manual mode too.

I don;t know if it is something that you can fix in the menus? I thought the Zoom on the handel was broken too because the dip switch did nothing when I set it to 2 for the spped setting. It turns out that you need to set it in the Menu area for it to work right. There might be something for the focus too.

    I hope that helps.

    Gentlemen and ladies, all:

Thanks for your help. Indeed, when I push the ? switch, everything comes into focus. I don’t know that I like that from an operator’s pov, but if that is the way the camera was designed, then I guess that’s one of the differences between these spin-forever lenses and a real lense. I’ll just have to be very careful when doing rack focusing.

    Lars:

You can turn off the auto focus and still keep the Auto / Manual switch set to Auto. Go into the menu and then to “4.Auto Sw”. The forth option is “AF”, and the camera comes from the factory with this set to “On”. Turn it off.
