  • OT? – slow performance from MAXTOR drives

I just started a new job at a small post house which is in the process of trading in some old Avids for new FCP systems. I gave them recomendations on what drives to buy, ect, but their IT guy (who only knows PCs) found some article online about how to make your own RAID and bought all the pieces himself. Well the RAID has been performing poorly to say the least.

As a a test, I took some of the drives (MAXTOR DiamondMaxx 11 500GB) and pluged them right into the Quad-core’s SATA slots.

I am getting read write speeds in the 7-22MB/s And when I raid stripe three together it’s only 22-40MB/s Shouldn’t these drives be up in the 100-200MB/s when striped?

I am using both the Blackmagic disckspeed test and the AJA tester.

Any ideas? Other than buying a cetefied RAID!
