    hi one and all,

just had another ‘non-system disk’ startup error. had this a few weeks back, and checking the event log, found parity problems, etc., basically, all down to ‘bad’ cable. simple solution is to disconnect, reconnect hd cables. anyone finding this problem with sata cables? any suggestions as to good brand to buy?

The SATA spec changed about a year ago to a locking connector for this very reason, but I don’t think they is backwards compatible.

I dunno, but I recently built a new workstation with a SATA system drive that absolutely _refused_ to perform up to speed.

I hadn’t heard about SATA cables being flaky, now I wish I’d tried a few others. I have yet to receive a locking cable. Anyway, ultimately I stuck an old EIDE drive in it to get it working.
