OT – problem connect w a MacBook to a Sata raid via USB3 or…?
I was running a Avid on a G5 for legacy NTSC work and the G5 died. I was using a 5 drive raid (not striped but JBOD). As a alternative/replacement I tried a Startech USB 3 0 to eSATA Cable to connect to a fairly new MacBook (w USB3 & Thunderbolt) 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5 w OS 10.9.5). It only sees one of the 5 drives. I called the person I bought the raid from who I have a high regard for (should have done that earlier) and he seemed skeptical about USB 3 and thought using a Thunderbolt connection / adaptor to would be better. (he suggested the AKiTiO below)
It’s more expensive and ties up the port I would like to use for a 2nd monitor. Is there anything I can try before I give up on the USB 3 to Sata StarTech adaptor?
Thanks,
Paul
