OT: The keyboard on my Dell laptop is nice and crisp. The key stroke is short, and I can easily tell when the key has been pressed, without looking at the screen. In contrast, I have tried several desktop keyboards (Logitech, Microsoft, and even Bella and WorldTech), and the keystrokes are all relatively long, and mushy. It is hard to know when the stroke has registered without focusing on the screen (which is totally distracting, and wastes time and energy).

I went to Office Depot, and found nothing. Is there a desktop keyboard that has that same short, crisp laptop keystroke and feel? CPU magazine recommends this, https://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=topre_keyboards,realforce&pid=rf_se02b0, but there’s got to be a decent keyboard that does not cost $200+. I know they don’t spend $200+ on keyboards for laptops. Thanks.

OK, it turns out what I have is a ‘membrane style’ keyboard. What I need is a ‘scissor’ style keyboard.

I typed in ‘scissor keyboard’ on Amazon.com, and came up with lots of stuff, for reasonable prices.

I have the Logitech Illuminated keyboard. Very quiet keys, short travel, very small. If you like laptop keyboards then this board is what you want.

Ooohh, I’m kind of a keyboard nerd. The logitech one Mr. Rob recommends is also a membrane ‘board as is your laptop one, so you don’t really want a scissors/spring/cherryswitch board, because it has a long throw, but they do have decisive clickity-clicks and I love them! You might also love the little Apple wireless jobby. I worked on one all day earlier in the week and liked it alot, for what it was: very laptoppy in feel.

Now if anyone knows of a split-key spring keyboard that is reasonably priced, let me know! I know of a few straight ones (Das Keyboard and clones), but I need a split key and write a few thousand words a day, so it’s important. Also, I’d prefer not to have a number pad (I’d really like it detached and off to the side more). A Lexmark M15 from 1994 with a USB connection would be ideal. I know, too much to ask.

    Hey Rob.
I just got the keyboard in, and am using it now.
Yeah, that’s what I wanted! And nice and thin, too~!
    Thanks!
