OT: my old trustworth deck is in ICU.
Well, not yet. It’s in the ICU unit until more tests are done. But I think it’s finally played its last tape. So sad. Yet, its a happy day because this deck did what no one thought possible. This deck lasted longer than most thought possible. This deck made history! And that’s something to celebrate!
My “deck” is a Sony DCR-PC1. That’s a ONE not an elle. Yes, in 1998 I bought this miniature miniDV camcorder. Tapes were $24.99 each. But you could use them over and over without the degradation of VHS. The signal was digital so you have perfect recordings every time. Best of all, it had this new interface call firewire that allowed you to hook it up to a computer to do desktop editing of home movies! This deck went to Mexico, France, Thailand, and India. When I finally turned Pro and bought a 3-chip camera, this still served as a Camera 2. It also served as my capture deck. Even though it was old it took on the rigorous job of daily playing, rewinding, fastforwarding, and playing tapes the the younger, more glamorous 3-chip camera would not do. But alas, the tolls of the job finally caught up with it. ‘When you go to bed tonight, say a prayer for the PC1. Pray that it will give it another go. And if not, pray that it’s memory will live forever.
