OT: Lighting Grid Spacing? Pipe to use? How to build?
– Our lights are on stands and we want to hang them from a lighting grid structure in the ceiling.
– We have a girder system we can suspend the grid from so that is no problem…
– And we have just acquired a box of the standard lighting clamps.
– We are looking for a budget way to do this and I’m hopeful that you guys can give me a couple of tips…
1 – We were thinking of using two inch pipe – What kind of pipe would you guys suggest? Steel? Black Iron? Conduit?
2 – Is there a less expensive alternative than two inch pipe?
3 – Should we build the grid with pipes (or whatever) 2 feet apart or 3 feet apart?
3.1 How far from the studio walls would you place the first support? 2 feet or 3 feet? (Small studio so we end up with props and talent closer to the wall than we would like… so getting the backlight behind thme is an issue.)
4 – Do we really need to create a grid… or will running pipe (or whatever every 2 or 3 feet in one direction work? (We can rotate the lights but if the structure only ran in one direction we would be somewhat limited on plight placement in one direction)
Thanks for any help on how to do this.
