OT: gear recycling
What to do with all this old gear? 3/4″ decks, ancient SCSI JBOBs, beige box G3’s, shuttle drives…..
We’re in the los angeles area. Anyone know of a center that will take all the metal and dispose/recycle it properly? What do you do with old gear that’s too junked to donate or pass down the line?

I think Apple may have a program to take old CPUs. Check with your local government about recycling/disposing of other electronics. Here in NYC, the city has a special electronics disposal drive every summer.
Also, some of that gear may still be useful to someone. Check out your local freecycle chapter, and look into local school programs to see if they’re interested in any of the gear. Even non-working gear may be useful to a program that teaches repair.

Check with your local landfill. Where I am a law was just passed. It’s free drop off for electronics but we pay a recycle tax when we buy the stuff now. The items are disected and recycled or safely disposed of.
