OT – Final Cut Pro – Cross grade

I would call the Apple Store directly or email them directly. This is not something I would ask for advice on the forum as the only way to find out for sure is to talk to Apple. Be sure to note the person’s name you speak to or include a copy of the email if you do email correspondence.

I did the crossgrade of the entire Studio package and it all went well here with the switch. Haven’t acutally installed the software on my main editing systems yet, but the disks came back in two weeks.

If you’ve already upgraded to FCP from express, the M9922B/A part number looks correct – although as per Walter’s advice, I DON’T WORK FOR APPLE (disclaimer…). I would also suggest you call them and get a full record of that call. Good luck with Apple Europe’s customer support phone system.

The deal you are getting is excellent – and it’s because Apple is ditching selling these apps seperately, so they have to give you a good deal so you have an upgrade route. We own FCS already, and still have to pay half that amount just to have the discs changed – so you definitely get the better deal. DVD Studio pro is an excellent product, Sountrack pro is also useful and Motion…. well Motion’s fun.

However – PLEASE ensure you keep all your serial numbers handy for every original bit of software you have. In all probability, to install the upgrade you will have to enter your FCP upgrade serial number and THEN your FCE serial. Not a hassle as long as you have everything still to hand. If you’re in any doubt about this, don’t send in your discs.

Excellent point. In my case with the crossgrade, it actually uses all of the original serial numbers. The crossgrade did NOT come with new serial numbers.

Just to let you know that the Cross Grade process went fine – I received my disks within 2 days of sending them – pretty damn fast! 9 discs came back and I’m one happy chappy!!!
