    Hi,

I need a CRT multiformat monitor and the cheapest Sony I found was the PVM-L5.

What experiences do you have with this model?

What about the formats? As I understand it is only PAL, NTSC, 720p60, 1080i50, 1080i60. No 1080p24 or 720p24? Is this correct?

Any other comments about quality, etc.?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards
    Sven

I have the 20″ model which is getting very hard to find now, but if you can find it it’s outstanding. I cut both HD and SD with full color correction on the monitor and it’s colors are very true.

    Hi,

If you can find a PVM-14L2 or PVM-20L2 it will be cheaper. It will use P22 phospours instead of SMPTE-C. Both phospours have identical color so that is not an issue. The L2 series have lower resolution. 600 lines vs 800. For DV which has 500 lines that is not an issue. We just got a PVM-14L2 for $850 from B and H. Sony had used it at a tradeshow, hence the discount.

    Best Wishes,

    Mitch

I believe the original L5 doesn’t have 24p support but revisions -like 20L5/1 or 20L5/2 do.

the L2 does not have support for progressive like the L5/1’s do so I would stay away from the L2 series if you plan on working with HD.

Thank you a lot for sharing your experiences with me.

Yes, I want to view SD and HD content on it.
And I need a monitor that can also display 1080/24p or 1080/48psF. So can the PVM-L5 or not?

It is interesting that there are also different Versions available. I don’t know that before.

    Regards,
    Sven

The PVM-L5/1 and L5/2 monitors can display progressive just fine. The straight L5 cannot. They’re getting very hard to find as Sony is no longer making them so if you find one, buy it.
