OT – DVD Recorder that takes computer firewire?
Posted by Steven Gonzales on June 3, 2007 at 2:57 pmI need to quick record dailies to DVD.
Can anyone confirm a consumer type DVD recorder model that will accept firewire signal from FCP timelines?
Thanks for any advice.

June 3, 2007 at 2:59 pmYou can find a Philips and I believe a Panasonic model that can both do this. But I highly recommend AGAINST this. With both our older Philips model and our new Panasonic model, the firewire signal is majorly degraded by a lot of additional compression. Signal actually looks much better going in to the machines via composite and analog audio.

June 3, 2007 at 3:17 pmWe have used it for fast deliveries of dailies, and it worked fine (and this was shot on film 24p, so it was actually a necessitie to use this method… pal+decklink+24p does not work smoothely)

June 3, 2007 at 4:47 pmFor what it is worth, Phillips just came out (or at least I just show it) a DVD-R that has component in as well as Firewire. Just got it but have not tried to record to it, my plan is to send a DVCProHD timeline to it via Kona3 analog component out.
