I had to reinstall DV Rack after reinstalling Windows on my laptop. I then spent two days trying to activate the program. After several calls to technical support, they finally informed me that effective November 2008 Adobe would no longer activate the program. The replacement program called On Location is part of a suite. The cheapest way to get the program is to buy Premiere Pro CS4 for a mere $800. If you have an earlier version of Premiere you can buy the upgrade for $300. It will not be necessary to install the earlier version of Premiere merely the serial number of the earlier version when you install the new version of Premiere. Talk about being bummed. Lucky for me I had an early version of Premiere. I would suggest if you do not have an older copy of Premiere to start contacting Adobe and trying to get the same upgrade path I did since it seems to me to be a little unfair to just stop activating the program and then not letting you have an upgrade path. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

A lot of us knew it was coming. Just another way Adobe does business. I wonder if a class action might help but who has the money to do that.

Anyway which version of the old DV-Rack do you have? If you have the latest HD2 that came from Adobie I wonder if that could still be activated. I have both the original from Serious Magic as well as the HD2 I got direct from Adobie as an upgrade. but that was also maybe a few years ago?

HMMM, I bought the old Serious Magic Ultra 2. That means Adobe won’t let me re-acctivate it for the same machine if a re-format is needed? WOW Adobe. That’s a rare case where I would support a cracked version of the software you PAID for. Danny

    Allen,

I have DVRack 1, DVRack 2 and Ultra. Like so many others, I also got very concerned when Adobe purchased Serious Magic and now it looks like I was right to be worried.
