  • OT: Digital Signage Wireless Media Player?

Bit OT here but thought I’d ask in case anyone here does Digital Signage. I dabble a bit with place-based media but mostly it is for client tradeshow applications where they either run rich content from their laptops to a projector or flatscreen…I also have them take a robust DVD player with auto-play/repeat DVD which is pretty bulletproof.

I’m looking at a client request to come up with a user-friendly / wireless HD media player to feed multiple displays in a retail setting.
Been looking at various vendors but client wants a “plug & play” set up where they can send AV content from a single source wirelessly without using a server or internet connect.

Anyone have any experience with this? I’ve been looking at home media wireless AV transmitter with multi-receivers which looks promising…but can’t seem to find anything from digital signage vendors without getting into a hard-wired or internet server set-up.

    Thanks,

    Chas

You need a DVD player, a Wireless A/V Transmitter & several Receivers.

Take a look here and read the reviews:

Thanks for the reply & link. I’ve looked at these, not sure if they’re suitable for commercial application as they seem to be made for the home environment.

Have you used these personally? If so, can they hold up to daily use for about 10 to 15 hrs daily usage?

Essentially what I need is a WHDMI transmitter that can take the output of a DVD player or digital media player and send the AV signal wireless to 4 or 5 TV displays, each with a wireless receiver.

I’ve got some Viewsonic 22″ that have built-in DVD players but those are starting to fail after 3 yrs continual use. But each display has many inputs including HDMI and a USB port. Even a composite AV might work provided there’s no interference.

I was looking at the Digital Signage forum but there hasn’t been any activity over there in months…not sure if it’s still active.

    Thanks,

    Chas

It,s OK, I am in the Digital Signage business and I use Vegas for post-production.

I thought you needed a quick solution for a 1-2 day trade show.

If you need a permanent solution, I don’t think you should use a wireless AV solution. I don’t know about any commercial grade wireless HD AV distribution system. If you find one, please let me know.

For a permanent solution, I would use a wired Ethernet network. PCs configured as digital signage players, with remote scheduling capabilities. This way you have reliable distribution of customized content for each monitor.

Each Player would be attached to 1 or 2 displays, or more if you go for a video-wall.

I’ve been looking at Viewsonic’s wireless media players and they may work out. The big thing is distance from transmission to reception.
    Here’s a link:

    https://www.viewsonic.com/us/digital-signage/media-players.html

The thing is my set-up won’t allow for cable or Cat5 or internet stream. Right now I’m using 5 TV/DVD combos which have been working well for the past 3 yrs but 3 machines are starting to sputter.
Since the displays have multiple inputs including HDMI & USB, I’m thinking there must be some wireless network streaming device that would do this without too much hassle. I’ve seen some 5.8mhz devices and with WiFi being all the rage… you could even send something from a tablet or Android device in needed. Hence there must be some solution out there.

    Thanks,

    Chas

Well, if a consumer DVD player worked OK for 3 years, 15 hours a day. That is a good record. Even PCs after that time start to fail.

In your case, I would look at these:

    – HD Flow™ Pro Wireless Multimedia Kit. (https://peerair.peerless-av.com/products/HD-Flow-Pro-Wireless-Multimedia-Kit-0384197265)

    – PICO Broadcaster (https://peerair.peerless-av.com/products/HDS-PB100-4639752801)

I haven’t use any of them. I would like to know what you decide to used. Just in case I find a similar challenge in the future.

Funny you send this link because I was just looking at this on my own. The 4 unit model is what I was talking to the Peerless rep about. I could set it up where one display gets a hard feed from the player and wifi the other 4.

BTW…the TV/DVD combos were Viewsonic N22W01 which were very well made units and designed more for corporate AV use. Bascially a store mgr would use a single remote and hit “Power” …the DVD was already loaded and would auto-play. Worked beautifully. Also have some older Toshiba TV/DVD combos and they’re still working. But I know it’s just a matter of time. Price performance-wise, these have served me well.

    Thanks for the link

The PICO Broadcaster could be an option https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F63UWAzou4

You only need a transmitter. No receiver needed. Any standard TV will get the antenna signal.

The only problem is that the same content will run in all TVs.

Kewl… will check it out! The first thing though is pricepoint: a tad rich at over $2,000 🙁 Still it’s
    a sign of the future.

    thx
