Hello. I realize that this isn’t the closed caption forum.. but since this is where I hang out and since you people are a bunch of real pros I thought I try it here.

I have a bunch of close captioned masters on digibeta. They each have 3 x 10 second blacks where the commercials go.

I want to edit them keeping the captioning to simply remove the blacks. I thought of 2 ways to do it.

Capture each one via Decklink edit out the blacks and remaster.

Rent a second Digibeta deck and just linear edit the new master.

questions.. will I preserve the caption information and not cause any skipping or other disruptions to the captions?

Which of these two methods might be better, or can anyone think of any other way to do it? Saving money is an issue. I could just remaster all the shows and send them out for captioning but that would be costly.

Thanks for taking the time to read this..

    Jason

I’d like an answer as well. since Multibridge Extreme or was it the new drivers? added closed caption support.

If I capture a cc marked digibeta or betasp, then output back to tape, will the station be able to playback with cc intact on the dubs?

I believe CC info is encoded, like VITC, in the Vertical Blanking, so if you can capture with the necessary lines intact, and maintain them, you should be OK.
But please don’t take my word for it: TEST!

    Best of luck,
    Jeff

    Thanks jeff.

The stations that got the dubs never complained thankfully, and I did notice the cc lines at the top of the picture when I viewed them on my LCD monitor.

CC is encoded on line 21. This would be the first active line of the video. On all the players Dbeta BetaSP Video setups line 21 have to be enabled. There are system settings for the line blankig item in the Video setups on most players. With DVcam CCline1 and CCline2 (DSR-80) have to be enabled.
