have e6600, and toyed with q6600, but am wondering since rendering isn’t that much of an issue with me (remote clients and long nights), whether i’d be better off looking at a faster c2d say 8500 / 8600 for better previewing, etc.?

NO avchd stuff!just hdv / sd

Preview is not as multi-threaded as rendering so you are correct, a faster processor will do you more good than more processors for preview.

    thanks jr,

do you happen to know what sort of difference i’d get in terms of, say percentage, i’d get going from 6600 to say 8500?

what i’m trying to find out is whether it’s worth it, because if it’s only a small increase in preview, then i can live with what i’ve got….

Your E6600 is 2.4GHz and the E8500 and E8600 are 3.1GHz and 3.33GHz respectively. You will definitely feel the differences. Especially with the E8600 which is almost a full 1000MHz faster and the E8500 is 700MHz faster. That’s quite a jump.

I went from an e6600 to an e8400 in the spring and while the difference didn’t blow me away, it was certainly worth the $200 the e8400 cost me back then. Go for it.
