    Hi all,
At work we are planning an Oscar themed night in the near future. There are going to be awards related to work handed out to certain staff and we’d like to have some graphics to introduce each award like what they do at music/film awards.
I’m trying to search for any stock footage there might be or even any ideas/tutorials to make our own. I’ve been looking on websites like Digital Juice but it doesn’t look like they have what i’m looking for

I have competant skills in AE, illustrator and photoshop. Unfortunately i don’t know any 3D program knowledge so i won’t be able to create a 3D award in 3D to import into AE.

Any help and ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to go off topic. but it’s for a workplace, I don’t think the Academy will get all litigious on you. Unless your workplace is like CBS and you plan on airing the staff awards and selling ad time.

The night is only going to be a fun event and doesn’t have any direct link or reference to any real-life awards ceremony. I just couldnt think of any other way of describing it.

If you google the term ‘Oscar themed event/party’ as we did to get some ideas, there are literally hundreds, if not thousands of companies who provide everything from planning the whole ‘Oscar’ themed nights to supplying 6 foot blow up golden statues. So should all these companies be expecting a letter from an attorney representing the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences?

All i am asking is for some creative ideas for graphics to introduce each award or a pointer of where to get some royalty free stock footage. I’m well aware of what i can and can’t do in respect to company branding and image.

    Hey trunkyp,

This is what I’d do (came through my mind):

Background: Dark brown color with darker corners (circular mask, like Andrew Kramer regulary does in his tutorials).

Subject: Shiny Trophee with a cartoon look (2D, or course).

    – Growing vines behind the trophee to introduce it.
    – Add sparkles on the trophee, etc.
    – Add a banner beneath the trophee to introduce names or sections.

    Just an idea.

Check out Imaginary Forces’ page on the 74th Awards:

Basically, you can do anything (as you knew). But gold-themed light effects, lens flares, art deco, rotating gold/glass discs seem to be the thing sometimes. Often the award is shown rotating as part of a lower third element.

If you have time, I’d recommend finding any award show on tape or disc to get some ideas of the elements and timings common to all glitzy award shows.

The Broadcast Design COW may be another source of info.
