Orphaned media files
Posted by Steve Pankow on February 2, 2007 at 8:34 pmWhat’s the easiest way to locate orphaned files within a OMF Media folder?

February 3, 2007 at 6:37 pmI’m not sure that there is am easy one. There is a clunky procedure documented in Avid’s knowledgebase that uses the Media Tool, an empty bin and finding media relatives and inverting the selection. Search the Avid knowledge base for “orphan files” for a step by step procedure.
Orphan media is one of my biggest gripes with Avid. I still don’t understand why the media tool does not mark orphan files with some kind of indicator. Opening the media tool and selecting the drives and projects, the last step it seems is “adding orphan media…”…so it apparently knows what’s what.

February 5, 2007 at 5:20 pmYeah, I found that particular knowledgebase post and I’ll agree that the whole process is a PITA. The system is capable of quarantining files, yet it won’t tell you which ones are orphaned. It’s a bunch of crap IMHO. Avid, you’re not going to be able to rest upon your media management laurels for much longer.
