Orient Along Path – How to avoid the flips?
Hi All,
Does anyone know how to apply “orient along path” without having those flips on the z axis???
Basically, I need something that’s like Dan Ebbert’s “Auto-Orient Y Only” (https://www.motionscript.com/design-guide/auto-orient-y-only.html) but for orienting along the motion path rather than orienting towards the camera.
Having researched this a bit, it seems like others have already encountered this flipping issue when using “orient along path” but I didn’t find any solution…

this might work, it’s another way to orient to path.
the box you want to orient to null’s bezier path looks like this.//position data
thisComp.layer(“Null 1”).transform.position//rotation data
v=thisComp.layer(“Null 1”).transform.position.velocity;
radiansToDegrees(Math.atan2(v[1],v[0]))//////////
if that doesn’t work, you’ll have to use a dummy system.
name your rectangle “box” and paste this in rotation of the arrow. this will always auto orient to the layer being called to.follow2 = “box”
diff = sub(position,this_comp.layer(follow2).position);
