I am having a problem figuring out this issue in my comp. I’ll explain what needs to happen, then ask the question:

I am supposed to have a ring of text orbit around a globe, which I can do. The text is composed of section introductions. The globe and text will zoom from seeing all of the words to a tight shot where the section header text is the most prominent in the frame. Basically, I think of it as zooming in on the rings of Saturn. When the word or phrase for that section gets to the top of the orbit (the North Pole, if you will), I need to pull that text out, straighten it out and the rest of the comp (other text, globe, etc.) fades out.

The issue I’m having is…pulling that ONE word or phrase out from the ring of words. Is there a way to do that? I manipulated the mask, but that continues the movement of the words around the mask. Is this something that can be done in AE CS4? Thanks…and ask any questions you may think of.

Thanks Dave. As I’ve been sitting here staring at it, that’s what I was thinking too. Whew. Hopefully, I can find another way, but I definitely appreciate the help!

Depending on how your comps are structured right now you might be able to precomp your text, and have two layers of text in that precomp, one with all the words, the other with just one. Then just fade between them when it comes time to isolate your one word.

This obviously won’t work if you need to “pull out” the keyword in 3d space. If this is the case, how about duplicating whatever mechanism you have to create your ring of words, except replacing the text source (again precomp this) with one comp with the word missing, and another with just the word.

I don’t know how you have things set up, but this should work out (and be easier to control.)
