First off, please forgive what I am sure is a fairly basic question, however, I’m ver new to C4D.

What I would like is multiple points of light travelling in random orbits around a sphere. The animation doesn’t concern me; I’m just setting the right position, parenting to a Null and then rotating the null. It’s probably not the most elegant or ideal way (I’m sure Xpresso could do it very easily) but it will work for me.

My question is on the actual object. Would it be better to make a material with glow and apply that to an object or to make actual lights? Again, ideally I would like points of light, so it would seem the actual light route would be better. However, I discovered that when I add one of these “points”, it negates the scene lighting that I had already applied/set up.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Likewise, any RTFM comments will be completely understood.

    Mike

Note, I am operating on the basic Release 10.1

Adding new lights shouldn’t negate your scene lighting, unless the brightness of the new lights is just washing it out.

What I would do in this case is use lights with the lens flare option and very low actual brighntess.
