  • Options for animating a large number of items at once

Hi kids. I have a project where part of the logo is composed of about a hundred and fifty icons of people. I want to get the word to assemble itself, and these icons will fly in from behind the camera, more or less. I’d like for them to enter fairly near the center of the comp, so there’s a lot of depth involved as they fall into place. They do overlap, so it will be important to keep their movement ordered.

I’m sure complete randomness won’t work. I’ve done similar things using Trapcode Form, but not precisely this. I don’t need to create a ‘map’ to tell them where to land, the logo arrived with the pieces assembled where they need to finish.

I’ve considered using a script like Cloners+Effectors to ‘affect’ their Z position, but I have a feeling that’s going to result in inadequate X/Y placement as they move in.

Any good ideas other than animating them one by one?

    Thanks!

    Matt

I’m thinking there’s probably a way to set up a controller that would generate some kind of random negative value for z-position that I could animate to push the icons ‘forward’ initially, then, reduce the modifier down to 1 so they land in original position? I’m no expression writer, but I know some of you are!
