  • Option to choose PAUSED RESOLUTION separate from PLAYBACK RESOLUTION

I’m editing 8k Red Helium footage and need to debayer at quarter res for good performance, on my imac pro.

Everything during the cut and edit phases works great.

When switching to colour page and making detailed changes, however, it can be nice to zoom in further to the footage, for example to apply and tweak a node with sharpening, or noise reduction.

However, I need to look at original res footage to do this most effectively, and currently from what i can find, I have to go into the project settings>camera RAW>Decode quality, to change this over to Full Res. Fine, but then if i want to play back again, or hop to the edit page for something, i have to dive into the menu again, and it’s a pain.

It would be much appreciated if instead, you could select in RAW decode preferences your chosen ‘PAUSED resolution’ to be full res, whilst keeping your chosen playback resolution.
Can anyone point out if i’ve missed this setting somewhere please? Is it achievable quicker than changing the project settings every time i want to zoom into a freeze frame?

I previously used Premiere and RedcineX (I only recently made the switch to Resolve 16 Studio), and it seemed easier in those two other programs to achieve the same thing. Premiere has ‘paused resolution’ option right under the playback window, and RCX had a debayer quality chooser right above the playback window (not as good as premiere, but not as tedious as the menu method i’m doing in resolve; at least it was a quick 2 clicks).

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

I am doing a RED project at the moment and the playback is set to 1/4 res. It looks like the default is it goes to full on pause. I don’t know if you would want it any different to that. I didn’t even look to see if it can be set differently. You might want to search the manual.

    nope.

these are stills of paused images, zoomed in.
i made the res difference 1/16 vs full, just to make it more obvious, but paused image clearly does not revert to full res.

and yes. i checked the manual first; couldn’t find the answer.

Zooming in on the viewer isn’t valid check.

Do u have performance mode on, preferences, user, playback settings

Hi Peter, thanks, I do have performance mode on auto, yes. I could turn it off, but I don’t think that would help my issue, would it?

“Zooming in on the viewer isn’t valid check.” Please elaborate? This is the desired action, to be able to zoom into the viewer to see noise level in detail, or sharpening effect in detail. At full res.
