  Option key not working

  For some reason, my option key on my MAC does not work in AE 6.5. I had this problem a month ago trying to replace footage by mouse click + option new footage and drag it on top of a layer in the timeline and that did not work…and i couldn’t get it to work so i just did it the long way. Now i am following a tutorial where it is telling me to option click on the stopwatch for the pick whip and this is not working either. It acts as though if the option key is not being pressed at all. I know the option key works on my keyboard because i an do option+tab and i can switch windows. Has anyone had this problem on their mac? can anyone help me? this is driving me CRAZY!
