Optimum Setup for Premiere Projects
I have been using Premiere for awhile now but have always wondered what the optimum setup is for it. I mean where to keep files in relation to the drives and such.
Basically my current setup is:
I have 2 Internal Hard Drives. E: & F: (The guys who build the PC named the drives strangely) In fact I couldn’y load cinelook because it needed to go on the C: Drive. Anyway, I am using a Canopus DV Storm 2 Card. (Don’t know if this matters.)
On Drive E: (Video Drive)
On this Drive I keep All my Premiere projects.
Basically I start a “Master” folder for each client .This is where the Premiere Project File sits. Then inside that folder I make another folder called Audio-Video Files. A second folder called AE Files. And a third folder called Slates & Tags (if Neccessary). Inside the Audio-Video Folder is another Folder called Voiceovers.
On the F: (System Hard Drive)
I keep a Photoshop/AE Folder, An Audition Folder & An Encore Folder. Inside each of these are seperate client projects. Any files that need to be accessed in Premiere get transferred to the E: Drive. If I use graphic files from Photoshop I make another folder on the E: Drive for those graphics.
So Basically, is this an optimum setup? Should the Premiere Project File be with the video files? Does it really even matter? I ask because I am just trying to get the best/fastest response from my setup and have always wondered if I am doing something wrong.
I used to work on a Turnkey Avid Express w/ Meridian Board and that had a specific setup in regards to only keeping video files on the External Drives and also no defragging of the video drives as well. Is Premeire like that at all? Should I defrag my E: Drive regularly with Premiere? (Currently I do).
Anyway, thanks for looking at this and giving any response. I am not having any real issues so to speak but want to make sure that I am getting the most out of the system.
