Hi everyone, recently acquired a delightful Nikon D7000 which (as a bonus) does (IMHO) quite nice video. It has it’s limitations of course, you need to use a tripod under all circumstances… and the focusing is impossibly awkward… but i digress 🙂

Anyway…… mixing Nikon D7000 .mov (24fps 1080p) movies and Sony TG5V AVCHD (29.970fps 1080i) .mts files: I have been rendering to mainconcept 25mbps and the videos seem “OK….”

but does this make sense to do? I am playing back on popcorn hour and would like my rendered format as “normal” as possible for future blu ray etc. I am a slow-moving late adopter 🙂

    Appreciate your thoughts!
    Andy

Yes, Vegas Pro is very good with mixing formats and retiming so you should be OK using this approach. You might want to render to 24p so that you accommodate the lowest frame rate without having to synthesize new frames.

Could be a new thread but since you asked, I found Vegas Pro 11.0 to be less stable than 10.0 was and 12.0 to be more stable than 10.0 (which is more stable that 11.0) so I would vote for an upgrade to 12.0. Download the trial and see what you think. You have 30 days to try it for free. Just be careful not to save projects in 12.0 format because 11.0 won’t be able to open them if you do not decide to upgrade.

thanks John – so the rule of thumb is to render to the lowest frame rate… noted!

Does it make a difference that the sony is 1080i and the Nikon is 1080p?

hey so one more question: I notice when I play my Nikon 24p in VLC or media Player it looks great. But my rendered movie (using Mainconcept) has the flicker (“interline twitter”? – thankyou google :-)) when viewing certain objects (not a suit, but in my case the shingles on the roof of a house). Is this a product of raising the framerate beyond 24p or something else as my Sony doesnt seem to suffer from this?

    thanks!

    Vegas 11, Win7, Intel i7 w/12GB RAM – In need of a decent SSD, methinks 🙂 Sony TG5V, Kodak Zi8, Playtouch.

The 1080p wil probably look a bit sharper because the 1080i will need to be deinterlaced which slightly softens the image.

You will only get that when rendering interlaced. I thought you were rendering progressive. That would be really odd if progressive footage had line twitter.
