Hello. Current FCP7 user. I want to learn Avid Media Composer 7, via the 30 day trial. My system is 32 bit and I need to change it (somehow). Is my current setup OK for MC7? Will it still run FCP7 if I switch to 64 bit? Running Snow Leopard. Raptor 10,000 RPM main drive. Thank you.

That old MacPro…1,1…is 32 bit only. It cannot run at 64 bit. It might run the 64 bit OS…but at 32 bit. Yes, Avid will work, but it won’t be as fast as it would be running at 64 bit…obviously.

Thanks. Until I can afford the new Mac Pro (OS Marevick isn\’t even compatible with AVid MC7 yet) I thought I might get a used 62 bit iMac or a Hackintosh. Does that sound like a reasonable plan? Rather than spend a minimum of 4k I could run Avid for about a year at half the cost…

Avid released Ver 7.0.3 a couple of weeks ago with Mavericks support. See here https://community.avid.com/forums/p/124598/714979.aspx#714979
