    i have a g5 with 8 gigs of ram..
    i am just beginning with after effects and have found this webiste to be extremely helpful..
    id like to know how i can effectivley utilize my ram and/or i am already am, with cs3.

    ive heard that certain programs only utilize 4 gigs… is this true?

    is there a thread i should refer to?

    thanks for all the already great info ive recieved and a lil info would help me out immensly

    This doesn’t have to do with the program, it has to do with operating in a 32-bit environment. It’s just a limitation of the amount of RAM that can be addressed by a single process. If you have multiple cores/processors then CS3 can run a process on each of these, and each one should be able to address 3GB of RAM (I believe there is an extra GB set aside for OS stuff).

    ok i do have a dual core 2.0

    how do i optimize for 2 processors?

    I don’t have CS3 yet, it’s en route, so I can’t tell you exactly how to do it. It’s an option in one of the Preferences. I’m sure that if you check the AE help you can find what you’re looking for. Search for ‘multiple processors’ or ‘multiple cores.’
