  • Optimal Graphics Card configuration to also work with FCP X

    Hi all,

I’m looking to upgrade my graphics card to accelerate CS 6 as well as FCP X. CS 6 seems to only like Nvidia cards that support CUDA, and FCP seems to benefit best from the 5870.

Does anyone out there have a machine that’s running CS 6 and FCP X and benchmarked a card that works great for both?

    My machine:
    Early 2009 Mac Pro
    32 GB RAM
512 GB SSD Mountain Lion Boot Drive
    9TB Internal RAID array
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 (x2)

There is only one feature for which that is true: GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer.

    Carlos,
Any answer to your question? I too want to set up a Mac Pro (early 2008). I want to add 1 internal drive for Adobe Premiere and 1 internal drive for FCP X.
Do they both need OS Mt. Lion?
Can they both use the same graphics card as you ask? Currently I have NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT installed. I can add the Quadro 4000??
What about legacy productions edited on FCP 6.06 will they open on a new graphics card and in OS Mt. Lion?? For example, I was just asked to do a re-edit on a past production edited in FCP 6.06.

Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

    Peace, Huey
