  • Optical flow on clip speed changes causes PP to crash

As stated really. If I use Optical Flow to interpolate speed changes – it usually crashes PP. On one occasion it actually completely crashed the computer.

Since upgrading from CS6 I have experienced endless problems with PP. Seems to just get worse and worse. Can Adobe really not achieve the stability PP enjoyed before CC? I now often use AVID when clients are present. I hate it, but at least it never crashes. And I’m using FCPX, which I do like [gasp], but is too slow with long form projects.

Please Adobe – sort it out mate!

PS. Morph cut also causes a devastating crash.

I just had the same problem with Optical Flow giving me a full on system lock-down, had to power down to recover. Did you ever find a solution for this?

you both are combining multiple effects like lumetri. unfortunately, optical flow only works well with zero effects applied and non-interframe codecs like prores, dnxhd. you have to pre-render out luts, effects etc. before appling optical flow or your RAM will crash premiere.

Thanks for your reply, Chris. I didn’t have any other effects, just a speed change (which is the reason I needed the smoothing. However the footage is H.264. You recommend transcoding to Prores?

    Thanks again.
