Posted by Scott Davis on June 23, 2006 at 3:21 pmI need a good SFX library. With a good broad range of high quality recordings. Animals, environmentals, ambience, etc. Anybody have opinions on whats out there?

June 23, 2006 at 3:30 pmHave you at least checked out what comes with Sound Track Pro? It has a pretty good rudimentary SFX library that covers a fair amount of ground. Its covered my butt for many things.

June 23, 2006 at 4:43 pmhttp://www.digitaljuice.com They have an 11,000 item sound fx library on DVD. We got it here last month, lots and lots of great stuff and good price.

June 23, 2006 at 6:06 pmearly in my video editing career (im only about 5 years in) i borrowed a friends dat and a few mics and gathered all sorts of stuff, cars, horns, instruments, ambience, restaurant noises, all that good stuff.
also, i have an archive on one of my hard drives, where i always keep miscellaneous sounds from productions ive edited. got some awesome noises off some tapes from isreal, africa, south america, and vancouver (where i went to school)
I always thought going this route made the edits a bit more personal. I always got permission to do so from the oweners of the tapes.
when I am in a fix, and need something I dont have, i have a few sound mixer friends that usually gladly donate stuff.
when i am in a real pinch, im all about sounddogs.
also, a great investment to any editor out there, is a minidisc recorder, and a few really inexpensive mics. i travel with it almost everywhere i go, and at the drop of a hat, record just about anything. i have some great binaural sounds from the T here in boston, and in a few nightclubs and restaurants.

June 23, 2006 at 8:23 pmIt seems that until June 30, if you buy the sound FX with another digital juice product, it is only $249.
Can you suggest another of their products which is useful? Thanks.

The Editors Toolkits are nice because they give you complete sets of backgrounds, lower thirds and other motion elements that match. The VideoTraxx libraries are incredible for royalty free footage. Jumpbacks give you a lot of animated options which you can manually create into lower thirds and otehr elements.
I haven’t purchased anything from them I don’t like and they’re always have specials so it’s worth getting on their mailing list.

June 24, 2006 at 1:15 amFor an online library there’s also Audiosparx.com. I don’t really care for their library, but if you’re on a tight budget you can sign up for just 1 month and download and use whatever they have.
