    hi all,

Right now, looking at the Red, more DSLRs, and the AF-100. I’m planning a nice trip to NAB to get my hands on actual equipment, but I’d like some input/feedback. I am pretty well invested in DSLRs, but looking at new camera for an upcoming project.

The AF100 seems to be a cine-type video camera with interchangeable lenses. I have a TON of EOS, Nikon, and even FD mount lenses – can these be adapted to micro 4/3? I’m particularly interested in FD-mount lenses since I have some that won’t adapt without issues, but my regular Nikon and Canon lenses are a must. Any opinions on how well they adapt?

The AF100 seems to use the same workflow as the HMC150 with AVCHD, but it seems like everyone suggests using an external recorder from HDMI – what kinds of frame sizes/rates can I get like that (I’ve never actually used an external recorder, but I think I understand how they work). Will an external recorder give me better quality or latitude? I see they can record directly to ProRes, too – seems like that may trim some time off the edit. Seems like every new technology comes with its own set of hidden costs (what? you need LENSES with a DSLR? 😉

Has anyone else here made the transition from DSLR or other video to AF100? Pitfalls? I’ve been reading this forum so I’ve seen a few, but looking for some insight is all. Thanks in advance. Feel free to email me directly.

Talk to AJA at NAB. The KiPro would be a great solution. You would want to output from the HD SDI.

Thanks for the advice, I will put them on my list of people to see. This list is getting bigger by the hour. Good thing I’ll be there for a couple days. Thanks again!

You need to make a list for NAB and stick to it. Use NAB’s show planner.
